A Wrought Iron Garden Gate Adds A Touch of Class

The newest craze in decorating is decorating outside “rooms” such as your patio, deck, pool, or garden. Some people hire contractors to help them put in fencing around the their garden, yard or pool. When putting a fence in around a garden or pool, a nice finishing touch is a wrought iron garden gate.

While some people prefer aluminium when putting in a fence, aluminium can not match the look or feel of wrought iron. Even if the homeowner decides to use aluminum fencing around the pool or garden, this does not mean they cannot still use a wrought iron garden gate to finish it off.

Most people who keep a garden take pride in their flowers, vegetables and bushes. It is a shame when varmints such as rabbits or deer get into the garden. A decorative fence with a wrought iron garden gate for easy access allows the humans to get in but keeps the animals in an attractive and pleasant manor.

Furthermore, gone are the days when wrought iron looks menacing or foreboding, with the skills that blacksmiths have today wrought iron can be made to look whimsical and fun. A wrought iron garden gate can even be made to look like planks for a picket fence.

Something that a homeowner must remember when installing a wrought iron garden gate is to paint it regularly or else they run the risk of rusting. Outside of the rusting concern, wrought iron is a practical and beautiful solution for closing in your garden.

Rather than enclosing a pool in screen, which causes the water to remain overly cool year round, homeowners should consider building a medium height fence with finials on the top (to prevent people from climbing over) and a wrought iron garden gate.

This is a beautiful option to a screened in pool giving the pool the look of being designed rather than simply put in. By choosing a wrought iron fence that has designer elements a homeowner can give their entire back yard a high end look that their neighbors will envy. Finish it off with a wrought iron garden gate and the homeowner will complete the look.

When a homeowner chooses the look they want, it is equally important to higher installers that understand the ins and outs of installing a wrought iron garden gate to an aluminium or wrought iron fence. One the installation is complete the homeowner can take pride in the look of their pool or garden.

ABOUT DRIVEWAY GATES

Driveway gates can be provided as swing gates or sliding gates. Swing gates may be single or double swing. Driveway gates may be made from wrought iron, steel or aluminum.

All driveway gates can be automated, for remote opening. Swing gates require one or two electric ram openers, depending on whether they are single swing or double swing. For a more discreet appearance, the openers can be set underground. The openers are usually provided with battery back up, so that the gate can be opened even in the event of a mains power failure. Sliding automatic gates require a special electric opener unit.

Automatic gates can be operated by wireless remote control or by a push button. Telephone and video can be provided for contact with visitors. Some automatic driveway gate systems offer a mobile phone connection, so that the gate can be opened and closed using a GSM mobile phone.

About Gate Openers

Gate openers have become as much of a standard and a necessity as the garage door opener. The biggest difference with gate openers however is no gate is the same; they are hung on different hinges, on columns or posts, made of different materials, have different power access, subjected to different wind and weather conditions, are picketed or tube or solid, open many or only a few times a day, and many other conditions that affect your gate opener choice. No one manufacturer of gate openers covers all scenarios so don’t be fooled by other sites only selling one; you need a trusted source of experts with enough gate opener options to cover every scenario.

Quality Driveway Gate Building Process

Our gate building process usually takes two to three weeks from the first appointment through installation of your custom driveway gate.

Step 1: Understanding Your Needs
We can provide a quote based on information received by phone our through our quote form on the contacts page.

Next, we meet face-to-face to discuss the design of your gate and review the area where your gate will be installed.

This step is very important, because every person’s needs and desired style is different. We also take into account things like:

The location of electric power
Surrounding trees that may block sunlight from a solar panel
The slope of your driveway and the surrounding terrain
Nearby landscaping and/or buildings which the gate should match
Any special needs or other things that might affect the gate design
With all the above information, we modify the gate design to meet your exact needs and provide a price quote.

Step 2: Strong Posts for a Good Foundation
Once the driveway gate design is selected, the next step is to “set the posts.”

We dig holes for the main posts 5 feet deep. This gives a strong foundation so we can guarantee your gate will never sag for as long you own it.
All posts are made of 5″ square steel tube, 3/8″ thick for strength.
Your gate posts are acid washed and dipped in primer for a long rust-free life.
Once the posts are set, the area is carefully measured to insure a perfect fit for your gate.

Step 3: Building Your Quality Gate
To build a quality driveway gate:

We start with high quality 3/4″ square metal tubing for the vertical bars and 1-1/4″ square tubing for the frame and cross members so your driveway gate won’t sag
The metal is precision cut to insure a perfect fit
If desired, an arch for the gate is formed on our state of the art bending machine. This creates a smooth, wrinkle-free bend that maintains the strength of the metal
The metal pieces are pressure washed to remove any oil, resulting in quality welds that will last for years
Your gate is assembled and measurements are double checked to insure accuracy
Your gate is arc welded, so it will hold together as a unit for years

Step 4: Paint – Your Gate’s Protection
Preparation and painting are critical to a long-lasting gate.

After your gate is built, it is acid-washed to insure proper adhesion of the paint
Your gate is then dipped in anti-rust primer so every part of the gate is fully coated
When the primer is dry, the gate is spray painted in the color of your choice
Step 5: Installing Your Driveway Gate
Once the gate is built, we make an appointment for final installation.

During the final installation, these final steps are taken to insure a quality gate:

The posts are spray painted to match your gate
The gate and any surrounding fence sections are installed
The gate opener is installed, along with the solar panel or electrical connections
The gate and opener are adjusted and tested to insure proper operation
The area is completely cleaned up, so your gate looks great from day one

Iron Fence

decorative iron fence
Let’s face it, since the Industrial Revolution some of the most amazing works of landscape design have been created out of metal. Just walk through any urban center and you might notice some of the most ingenious metal creations – indeed, the ones you walk past everyday. For years, iron fences have been the staple of any urban landscape. Its design captures grandeur, prominence and authority. Plus, when coupled with a home security system, helps to keep you and your family well protected.

Types of Fences
Metal fences come in a wide range of styles, shapes, and designs. Some are very ornate, while some are sleek and simplistic. Whether it’s aluminum or wrought iron you’re after, and whatever your personal taste, there is a metal fence out there for you.

Wrought Iron Fences
Wrought iron fences are among the most recognizable of the metal fences. They encapsulate style and sophistication with utility and substance. Wrought iron fences tend to be high enough to provide excellent security against unwanted intruders. Sharp post caps can be added to a wrought iron fence to provide additional security. However, wrought iron fences provide minimal privacy for your property. They are mainly installed for security and decorative purposes.

Rod Iron Fence
The rod iron fence is similar to the wrought iron fence, but many do not have the menacing post-caps that wrought iron fences are famous for. These fences tend to be lower as well, often reaching only waist-high.

Ornamental Iron Fences
For those who like to make a decorative statement, investigate ornamental iron fences. These fences can be made in almost any shape and size and, as a result, are popular practically everywhere. They can provide an excellent focal point for your garden or act simply as a conversation piece.

Ornamental iron fences are an excellent choice if you are looking for something a little different for your property. They are a good alternative to a simple iron fence as they add a unique design element to your yard. Ornamental iron fences are made from a number of different materials -they aren’t just comprised of metal. The result is a beautiful fence with a hint of something a little bit different.

When looking into a fence, if you think you would like something with a little bit of a punch, getting a ornamental iron fence may be what you are looking for. Many ornamental fences come with symbols, special designs and ornaments that fit in any occasion. Many times, you can even create your own design to place on these fences.

Ornamental iron fences can definitely take you away from the normal style of fence. It is recommended that you shop around to get the best price on a design that you like.

Wrought Iron Fence

The wrought iron fence is an enclosure that is synonymous with safety, protection and privacy. The wrought iron fence has traditionally been popular among the proud, elderly gentry.

The wrought iron fence (also called the security fence) is a series of iron rods that comes in a variety of styles. Most, however, are made in the gothic/romantic styles of Great Britain. Among them include the picket border fence, the hoop, arrow and border fence, the Renaissance fence and the Victorian fence.

Sophisticated and Formal
If you like the sophisticated look, than a wrought iron fence might be right up your alley. The colour and design of wrought iron lends itself to a formal property and goes well with a well manicured lawn, classic masonry and brick pillars. Upkeep on ornamental iron fences isn’t demanding, however, wrought iron fences are expensive and difficult to install. Only a professional with enough skill and training can install these fences properly.

Providing Security
Wrought iron fences are an excellent choice where security is a concern. These fences tend to be high enough to keep the unwanted out, and by adding sharp post caps, scaling these fences is almost impossible. Wrought iron fencing also functions to keep large pets and guard dogs safe and secure. Wrought iron fences do not increase privacy a great deal, but they offer an excellent level of security blended with a sophisticated look.

There are literally hundreds of different styles of wrought iron and cast iron fences. Whatever your style, you will be able to find something that suits you and your property. You can choose from a variety of decorative elements, including finials, personalized caps, and even coats of arms. Gates can also be added to wrought iron fences, and can use both simple key locks or an automated entry system.

A Dying Art
Unfortunately, we are beginning to see less and less of the wrought iron fence. True wrought iron fencing is a dying art that is difficult to find and expensive to purchase. Most of the fence industry has made the transition to ornamental aluminum fencing which does not have the high costs of labor and material associated with true wrought iron.

Aluminum fencing gives the same traditional look of the wrought iron fence at a cost that will satisfy the most frugal of consumers.
